The survey appears to start at the north end of Parton, proceed to the south end, then fill in odd houses at the north end. The last two dwellings given here, the Toll Gate and the Black Cock (now better known as Briscoe Bank) should not really be included in Parton at all- I have borrowed them from the Moresby listing.
Household column:
dw. = unnamed dwelling
+ = next person in household
++ = extra household within dwelling
Name column:
Look out for "uninhabited"!
Income source column:
- = reliant on main income earner (but may act as assistant)
Other column:
First character, m for male, f for female
Middle 3 characters, age (character 5, m for months, w for weeks)
(usually in 5-year bands over age 15)
Last character, y if born in Cumberland
n if born elsewhere in England or Wales
S if born in Scotland
I if born in Ireland
N.B. Parton's enumerator for the 1841 census was not the brightest of sparks, and many names are spelled in rather eccentric fashion. Some are almost illegible, due to badly-sharpened pencils. The present editor is also not immune from error, though the data has been checked through once.
