There is a Congregational chapel, erected in 1861, with 160 sittings, and a United Methodist chapel, and the Christian Brethren hold services in the Liberal hall... rateable value £3,642 [Whitehaven r.v. given as £76,698]...   Williamson's Endowed School... rebuilt 1886 Robinson Schools... restored & enlarged 1893 by private contributions, have been transferred by the owner, Mrs Bragg of London, to a body of trustees, as both are voluntary C of E schools, and the rector of the parish is chairman of the trustees.
